From village after village located in the remote mountains of the Himalayas to pristine southern rural landscapes, we create opportunities for travelers to visit real places at villages, towns, and off-the-beaten-path locations in India, that go beyond an average hotel room where travelers are looking for a unique, memorable experience.
Gushaini was our starting point. A tiny village nestled within the Tirthan Valley region of Himachal Pradesh. A place without large chain hotels or fancy resort developments. There were trees and rivers and families whose houses were open to the first handful of adventurous guests. What started there became our basis for all we have created since then. No third-party intermediary packaging a village as a product, simply connecting each visitor directly to the hosts.
We vet relationships rather than listing properties. Every stay on Rural Stay India comes from hosts: local families or communities we work directly with over months of visits and conversations before any listing goes live. Scale here is not pursued for its own sake; it is a deliberate slow expansion village by village because trust with a host community cannot be bypassed.
What began in one valley in Himachal Pradesh has grown into a presence throughout India: from last accessible villages near passes through mountains to backwaters and forgotten hamlets that rarely appear on maps or travel itineraries. We are actively adding new regions including villages in South India because diversity in rural India does not stop at one geographical area.
Mainstream tourism flattens places into pretty pictures. We fight against that and highlight destinations precisely because they are overlooked. We show them with the texture and truth they truly deserve. When you stay with us, your money goes to the income of a homestay family rather than to margins of a chain hotel. And the experience you have is that of the village itself, not a carefully staged performance of it.
Real places, real hosts. One village at a time.
